Well, I’m back from Italy. I learned a lot. Italians have perfected the art of eating, and eating is truly an art in Italy. Maybe I will post more about it later.
I have always considered myself to be a pretty fit guy, in good shape. I am really into mountain biking, it is one of the best things ever. But, over the past year, I have not made the time to exercise as much as I would like. I make excuses about why I don’t have the time. As a result, I have put on some weight (ok so I am still really a lightweight at 165lbs) but I know I have also gotten weaker. Intellectually, I have always known that fitness is very important, etc., and a few months ago I became obsessed with the ROM machine, which as far as I can tell is totally awesome. I don’t have time to elaborate on it too much here. Many people are skeptical about it, but I have seen enough to convince me that I should at least try one out next time I am in Hollywood, CA (which is where they are made). Check out this great video. Just the fact that one of my heroes, Tony Robbins, swears by the thing makes it legit in my book.
Anyway, I was explaining to a friend of mine about how great the ROM machine is and how one of my goals is to buy one. She said something to the effect of “That’s great but in the meantime you should go to the gym.” That was exactly what I needed to hear. I realize that sometimes I create excuses for myself, and in a way, the ROM machine was just an excuse for why I wasn’t going to exercise now. “In the future I will get in better shape and exercise more.” Yeah, right. I realized the error of my ways, and I joined a gym. The only problem is I didn’t know how to use any of the equipment!
Another friend told me about bodybuilding.com and how there was a wealth of information on fitness, working out, nutrition, and all sorts of stuff. I checked it out and read it for several hours, and soaked in the awesomeness. Based on the information I gathered from reading the nutrition section, I designed a meal plan for myself and I have been eating better than I have in years, as well as drinking a gallon of water per day. I feel better already.
If you know me, you probably know that I never do anything halfway. I go all out. So I hired a personal trainer. I had my first session with him this morning. He kept after me and I lifted so many weights that I felt like I might throw up. That is how I know I am getting a good workout. I am still sore from it, but it is a great feeling. I highly recommend it.
